Thermoplastic vs Standard Traffic Paint
Not every marking needs the same material. The right choice depends on traffic, pavement condition, budget, weather exposure, and how long the marking needs to last.
Standard Traffic Paint
Traffic paint is the practical choice for most parking stalls, standard arrows, curb markings, and routine re-striping. It is cost-effective, fast to apply, and works well when the pavement is sound and the lot is maintained on a normal repaint cycle.
Thermoplastic
Thermoplastic can offer better durability for high-wear markings such as crosswalks, stop bars, arrows, warehouse routes, and industrial traffic areas. It generally costs more and needs proper surface conditions for adhesion.
Midwest Considerations
Fort Wayne weather matters. Snowplows, salt, freeze-thaw movement, standing water, and rough asphalt can shorten the life of any marking. Thermoplastic may not solve a failing-pavement problem, and standard paint may be the smarter choice when a lot will be sealcoated, patched, or resurfaced soon.
- Use paint for routine stall restriping and broad commercial lots.
- Consider thermoplastic for high-turn arrows, stop bars, and crosswalks.
- Review warehouse and industrial traffic separately from customer parking.
- Check pavement texture, age, moisture, and contamination before deciding.
